 introduction
Wilson & Horton (W&H) is one of two dominant newspaper
groups in New Zealand. It competes with Independent News
Ltd (INL) - the newspaper, magazine
and pay-tv group successively controlled by Murdoch's
News group and by Fairfax.
The
W&H flagship is the New Zealand Herald, a
daily. The group encompasses eight provincial newspapers,

community newspapers and
two tourist giveaways. It owns the New
Zealand Listener and the New Zealand Woman's
Weekly magazines and publishes others,
such
as Skywatch and AA Directions,
under contract. Its
Universal Business Directories NZ and Wises Publications
publish street directories and maps. It has a small book
publishing arm, W&H Publications.
It has a substantial stake in the APN-controlled
The Radio Network, with around 53 stations.
The group also includes commercial printing operations
(its Security Print is claimed to be the largest plastic
card manufacturer
in the Asia Pacific region) and Stanley Newcomb &
Co Ltd, a competitor of Gordon & Gotch.
W&H's Look Outdoor sells outdoor advertising.
