overview
This profile covers the US Entercom radio group, the fifth
largest US radio station chain but dwarfed by competitors
such as Clear (1,200 plus stations)
and CBS's Infinity.
Entercom
is based in Bala Cynwyd (Pennsylvania) and has multi-station
FM radio operations with leading positions in markets
that include Boston, Seattle, Denver, Portland, Sacramento,
Kansas City and Longview/Kelso.
It is controlled by the Field family (founder David Field
was a former Assistant US Attorney). Entercom almost doubled
in size during 1999 when it acquired 43 stations from
Sinclair Broadcasting Group
for about US$825 million.
